One of the biggest appeals of Voivod, at least for me, has always been the way they seamlessly interweave musical concepts that you wouldn’t think would work together but with Voivod they just… do. When looked at on paper, I never would have thought that the combination of fairly sophisticated technical riff construction and drumming made of pure undistilled punk attitude would work well together at all in thrash metal—much less that I would like it a lot. And yet, here it is.

This song in particular is a personal favorite both for how many clever musical ideas they managed to pack into a little over six minutes and for the genuinely brilliant way they tied post-apocalyptic scifi themes with their audial sound. I don’t think I’d mind having to survive a nuclear winter in a decaying world if I had this album as a companion.
